What They Are about

The Bardavon 1869 Opera House, Inc. is a New York State non-profit corporation that, in addition to the theater, operates the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. Named for Shakespeare, “The Bard of Avon,” the Bardavon theater has a fascinating history of bringing great entertainment since it was built in 1869. All these many years later, it is still a mecca for talented performances and is celebrated as the oldest continually operating theater in New York State, and one of the oldest in the entire U.S.

A diverse event calendar draws people from throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts and beyond. Performances, programs, and off-site events reach nearly 80,000 residents and visitors each year.

They present renowned and emerging performers in productions that inspire, entertain and educate people of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes. They also stage free outdoor arts events activities in local communities. These and all of our activities boost community pride, urban revitalization, and cultural tourism, strengthening the quality of life for all.

Our Notes

  • Crowd Favorite favorite is movie night! They play several Classic movies throughout the year. It's a great experience. With a humongous screen that dwarves typical movie screens these days. There is an outstanding organ player who entertains the audience playing a historic organ ( which sounds amazing) prior to each show.

  • Every seat is a good one

  • Enjoy dinner at one of the great restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk, then sit back and enjoy the show.

  • Make sure you can climb the stairs if you buy a balcony seat.
