FLUX

What They Are about

FLUX is the collaborative studio and gallery of talented makers rooted in Catskill’s vibrant craft scene. Showcasing hand-blown glass from Catskill Glassworks and sculptural ceramics by Lucie Piedra, the space reflects deep craftsmanship and material exploration. Opened in 2025 in the longtime former home of L&M Studio, FLUX carries forward a strong making tradition while presenting a clear, contemporary point of view. Pieces range from functional objects to expressive sculptural forms, each shaped by hands, heat, and instinct — objects that reward both visual appreciation and everyday use. The studio’s name speaks to constant movement and transformation, an idea that plays out in the materials themselves, where fire, gravity, and timing guide each finished form.

What you encounter at FLUX isn’t mass produced or predictable. The work is born from technique and experimentation, where molten glass becomes vessels, sculptural objects, and playful forms that feel both grounded and surprising. Much of the work is made on site by Lucie and Chad, who met while studying at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, bringing a shared material language to the space. That foundation in formal training is balanced by curiosity and risk, allowing traditional processes to evolve into pieces that feel fresh and distinctly Catskill. By presenting this work in a storefront setting, FLUX blurs the line between studio and gallery: you’re as likely to meet the maker, talk process, or witness works in progress as you are to browse finished pieces.

Located prominently on Main Street in Catskill, FLUX functions as both a creative hub and a stop on a larger cultural walk through town. Its presence reflects Catskill’s evolving art scene, where studios and galleries line the streets and invite repeated visits just to see what’s new. A small number of legacy L&M Studio lamps remain on view alongside new work, offering a quiet through-line without shifting focus from the present.
