Coxsackie is a small, historic waterfront village with a one-block main street that has a bank, post office, restaurant, library, a lovely wine shop called the Reed Street Bottle Shop and a general store selling gourmet food, beer, coffee and snacks. West Coxsackie (just 10 minutes from the house) has a Top's supermarket, pharmacy, diners and restaurants, a Stewarts gas station, and an emergency medical clinic. The village of Athens (15 minutes away) has a brew pu serving locally-sourced vegetables and meats, a bakery, and Black Horse Farms, a farmstand selling local vegetables and baked goods. The house is a 20 minute drive to Hudson, which has many antique shops and restaurants. Windham and Hunter ski slopes are about 45 minutes away. The area has many rural roads for cycling and the hiking trails of the Catskills are an easy drive.
