Josey’s WineFarm sits quietly along a country road in Old Chatham, surrounded by vineyard rows, open meadow, woodland, and the foothills of the Berkshires. There is no grand arrival sequence waiting at the end of the drive. What you find instead is a small seasonal estate winery with its own rhythm, enough breathing room to make an afternoon feel wonderfully unscheduled, and a personality that refuses to blend in.

Formerly Sabba Vineyard, the property is becoming something unmistakably Josey’s: a little Texan, a little goth, a little punk, a little pop. It is laid-back most days, willing to bring the fancy when the moment calls for it, and never interested in behaving like a conventional tasting room.

That personality begins with Josey herself. The WineFarm’s namesake and self-appointed boss is a rugged, confident cat who traded Texas for the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley and now presides over the vineyard with an appreciation for good music, good food, laughter, and full glasses. The farm crew and volunteers handle the tending, harvesting, winemaking, and hospitality. Josey handles morale.

The humor is real, but so is the wine.

Every small-batch wine is made from grapes grown in the onsite vineyard. That estate-grown approach makes Josey’s more than a tasting room with a beautiful view. What is in your glass is connected directly to the rows outside your seat and to a working property the team continues to tend, study, and shape from season to season.

Josey’s is also proud to challenge the assumption that New York wine must be sweet, simple, or limited to whites. The team gives itself permission to have fun with what goes into the glass. Depending on the season and weekend, that creativity may appear as a jalapeño infusion, house sangria, mulled wine, or a summer wine slushie known as a Frozen Awesome.

The tasting experience follows the same philosophy. Come curious, ask questions, find the wine that surprises you, and leave the vocabulary exam at home.

The air-conditioned tasting room offers a comfortable escape on hot days, while covered, shaded, and full-sun outdoor seating lets visitors choose their ideal corner of the property. There is room to walk, watch for wildlife, and settle in with friends without feeling packed into someone else’s afternoon.

Wine remains the heart of the experience, but it is not the only option. Josey’s also pours a rotating selection of local beer and serves snack plates made with thoughtfully sourced local ingredients. Special weekends may bring music, performances, seasonal gatherings, or private celebrations. On quieter afternoons, the real luxury is having very little on the agenda beyond another glass.

Three guest cottages turn Josey’s into a genuine vineyard escape. Couples, friends, and small groups can stay steps from the vines, with Hudson, Albany, Tanglewood, the Catskills, the Berkshires, the Empire State Trail, country cycling roads, farm stands, restaurants, breweries, and other regional adventures within reach.

Overnight guests can finish the day in the open meadow, where the darkness and quiet make stargazing feel like part of the itinerary.

The WineFarm also welcomes private-event inquiries, giving celebrations access to vineyard scenery, indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, and onsite lodging.

Josey’s is still evolving in the most exciting sense. The team continues to reshape the property, expand its offerings, experiment with events, and imagine what each new season could bring.
