Local Farm-to-Plate Dining
Swoon KitchenBar
What They Are about
Swoon Kitchenbar, Hudson Valley's first farm-to-plate restaurant, is located in an early 19th C. building in Hudson, NY. Its culinary philosophy is about celebrating the freshest, highest quality food the beautiful region has to offer. Since 2004, its ever-changing, new American fare and extensive wine list has set the standard for fine dining in the Hudson area. Swoon offers professional service, warm hospitality in a relaxed yet stylish space with soaring ceilings and freshly cut flowers, anchored by an impressive, long bar.
What sets the cuisine apart is an unwavering attention to detail by its talented husband-and-wife team – chefs Jeff Gimmel and Nina Bachinsky Gimmel – to the sourcing of ingredients and preparation of each dish. Because of the Gimmels’ dedication to sourcing locally, the dishes change slightly every day, so the menus are printed daily.
Swoon boasts two food- and beverage-focused events, Dollar Oyster Fridays and Burger Thursdays, which are popular, permanent mainstays. Burger Thursdays offer a ½ pound of Kinderhook Farm all natural grass-fed beef, served on a house made bun, house made tater tots, and spicy aioli. Dollar Oyster Fridays, or "buck a shuck" from 4 to 6PM, features the freshest oysters in town. Our East Beach Blondes, shipped daily from Rhode Island, are silky and smooth with a mild, salty flavor.
Notable dishes include Crispy Artichokes, Chicken Liver Mousse, Steamed Littleneck Clams, Shoestring Fries, Beet Salad, Spice Rubbed Hanger Steak, as well as vegetarian, salmon, cod, duck, risotto, and pasta dishes, which change frequently based on the bounty the Hudson Valley has to offer. The Bread Board features a selection of breads baked in the wood-burning oven of sister restaurant Le Perche, and the Cheese Plate is a perfect, indulgent sharing option - either to start or finish the meal.
Swoon is open Wednesday through Sunday, and offers Lunch/Brunch and Dinner menus, as well as a renowned cocktail list including the thirst-quenching Health Margarita, as well as two delicious NA cocktails. As to the "killer wine list," it was recently lauded by Eric Asimov, The New York Times' wine writer, as one of the best in the Hudson Valley.
