Add this spot to your Ice Cream Bucketlist

Greetings, explorers! We at HVHappenings are here to guide you to another hidden gem in our beloved New York. Today, we're taking you down a narrow alley in Saugerties, where you'll find a sweet surprise that's been making waves in the ice cream world. Yes, we're talking about the one and only Alleyway Ice Cream!

Tucked away off Partition Street, this tiny shop is a testament to the saying "good things come in small packages." In fact, it's been hailed as the "absolute best ice cream in New York State" by EatThis.com. But don't just take their word for it, the proof is in the pudding... or should we say, the ice cream!

Owner Julian Hom, a local who grew up in Woodstock and Saugerties, has turned a former cleaning closet into a haven for ice cream lovers. With only six flavors available at any given time due to the shop's size, each scoop is a testament to Julian's dedication to quality and creativity. The three staples are Madagascar vanilla, Belgian chocolate, and roasted strawberry, but the rotating flavors are where things get really exciting. Lemon ricotta, sweet corn, sour-cream blueberry, shortbread mint, cookies and cream, and many more have graced the menu. Julian even whipped up a roasted-garlic-flavored ice cream for the Saugerties Garlic Festival!

What sets Alleyway Ice Cream apart isn't just the unique flavors, but also the craftsmanship that goes into each batch. Julian makes all the ice cream by hand and prides himself on making his ice cream about 30% less sweet than most other ice creams. He believes that too much sweetness can distract from the true flavors of the ingredients. And based on the rave reviews, his customers wholeheartedly agree.

Now, here's a scoop for you: if you're lactose-intolerant, don't fret! Julian has you covered with a non-lactose product, using cashew milk instead of dairy cream. He's committed to having something for everyone.

So, next time you're in Saugerties, don't just walk down the beaten path. Take a detour down the alleyway off Partition Street and treat yourself to a scoop (or two) of Alleyway Ice Cream. And remember, the best way to enjoy ice cream is to take it slow and savor each bite. After all, it's not about the destination, it's about the journey... or in this case, the flavor journey!

That's the scoop from us at HVHappenings. Stay tuned for more exciting finds in the New York Area. And remember, life is like an ice cream cone, you have to enjoy it one lick at a time!
