A Quiet Place Part III Is Filming in Greene County

The monsters are back, and this time they are apparently listening for us in Greene County.

A Quiet Place Part III, the next chapter in John Krasinski’s blockbuster horror franchise, has begun filming in Durham. For Hudson Valley movie fans, that means one of Hollywood’s biggest horror productions is once again turning our beautiful little corner of New York into the end of the world.

And the cast is not exactly subtle.

Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are returning as the Abbott family. Cillian Murphy is also back after joining the story in A Quiet Place Part II. Newcomers Jack O’Connell, Jason Clarke and Katy O’Brian have joined the franchise.

Krasinski is returning to write, direct and produce the film, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 30, 2027. Plot details remain appropriately quiet, but this is the third film in the main Abbott-family storyline rather than another prequel like A Quiet Place: Day One.

The Hudson Valley Has Been Part of This Story From the Beginning

The franchise’s return is less random than it may seem. The original A Quiet Place was filmed primarily in Pawling, with additional scenes shot in Beacon and New Paltz.

The Abbott family’s farm was created around Pawling. Beacon Natural Market became the abandoned supermarket seen early in the movie. One of the franchise’s most memorable locations, the rail-trail bridge crossed by the family, is on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in New Paltz.

The sequel returned briefly to the region, bringing back the Pawling farm and New Paltz bridge even though most of Part II was filmed in western New York.

Now Greene County gets its turn.

Why Filmmakers Keep Coming Back

The Hudson Valley gives filmmakers an unusual amount of scenery without requiring them to travel far from New York City. Small towns, farmland, old buildings, mountain roads and deep woods can all exist within a relatively short drive.

That flexibility has made the region a regular stand-in for everything from cozy family towns to places where sightless aliens hunt anyone who drops a coffee mug.

For A Quiet Place, the landscape has always done more than sit in the background. The empty roads, farms, bridges and forests are part of what makes the movies feel lonely and dangerous.

The Hudson Valley already looks beautiful when nothing is chasing you. Remove most of humanity and add creatures with excellent hearing, and suddenly the cornfields become considerably less relaxing.

What Locals Should Know

This is not an invitation to search for an active set. Production locations can change quickly, and crews need room to work safely without crowds or private-property problems.

But it is still fun to know that a major Hollywood production is unfolding somewhere in a Greene County town, with Oscar winners, blockbuster stars and a director millions of people still recognize as Jim from The Office working nearby.

When A Quiet Place Part III arrives in theaters next summer, Hudson Valley viewers may recognize more than the mountains. They may recognize the feeling of the place itself.

And for once, nobody can complain that Durham is too quiet.
